Helen Maxwell

South Yorkshire Police

Prior to joining South Yorkshire police, Helen had a long and very successful career as the Director of two property companies, based in Marbella, Spain.

Following a relationship breakdown, a fresh start was required and Helen moved to Yorkshire. In 2012, Helen joined South Yorkshire police, initially based within the recruiting team before becoming Diversity and Inclusion Lead in October 2016.

Alongside encouraging candidates from under-represented communities to see South Yorkshire Police as the employer of choice, and supporting them through various selection processes, Helen is actively involved in internal staff associations. She recently established MAG – the Menopause Action Group and SYP 4D – a support network for staff with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. Helen is also the Strategic Co-ordinator for the internal Dyslexia Assessor Group and founder member of the Equality Hub.

Her current phrase of choice is: ‘Diversity is being asked to the party, Inclusion is being asked to dance’.
